Notes:
Robert was the son of William (a Potter's Packer) and Sarah Matthews of Longton,Stoke-on-Trent. Robert was a Carter in 1881 and a Farm Servant in 1891 at the home of his future father-in-law William Bettany at Stansmore Farm, Dilhorne. William married Mary Heath nee Bettany in 1894. His brother George married Mary's sister Sarah Elizabeth in 1889. Robert was a Coal Dealer in Longton in 1901.
